in Palermo and around
Lake Urio

There is something better than a very nice walk thru the nature...picking some mushrooms? :o)
Well...maybe yes but for sure we had a lot of fun doing that 2 days ago! :o)
The places (Lago Urio) in the Nebrodi Mountain was very nice. We walked thru the wood. Beautiful trees and a lot of Mushrooms!!! Yummy!!!
The Lago di Urio is a very small lake at 1.030 mt above the sea level.A lot of different type of birds live there. During our trekking we also met a lot of wild porks .
Around 13.00 we had our pic nic lunch with some bread, ham, cheese...after a good walk food is always more than welcome!! :o)A lunch in the middle of the nature, far away from the city and from the human caos ... well it's something great!! After our lunch we started our trek back. We had to come back before it was dark. It's not the first time that we make our back with the moon light! ;o)

After this very nice trekking we went to visit Mistretta.

Mistretta is a very nice small town at 950 mt above the sea level and around 4.5 km far from the beginning of our trekking. Main economic activities are agriculture, breeding and handicraft. Products mostly cultivated are olives, grain, citrus fruit and grapes. Breedings present are cattle, horse and sheep ones. Typical handicrafts are made in wrought iron and ebony.
The original name of Mistretta in the Medieval period was Amestratus soon after changed into Mistretta.
Mistretta has a number of interesting secular buildings. Among them are the 1600's Palazzo Scaduto - its façade having a rich doorway flanked by anthropomorfic figures and graced with an elegant balcony -, the Palazzo Russo, the 1800's Palazzo Salomone and Palazzo Di Salvo - its windows surmounted with lunettes bearing high-reliefs depicting the arts.
The most interesting monuments are the Cathedral church of ancient origins and restored in 1630 and the ramains of the Medieval Castle and the Church of St. Caterina of Rinascimento. Mistretta saw a remarkable expansion in the Middle Ages, with the development of a few settlements around its ancient castle, reinforced by the Normans. Thanks to its important role in the Sicilian Vespers War, it was granted the royal status. state property/was granted special "royal" status complete with privileges that included the right to administrate its own civil and penal justice system...and....
